The development to plant root endosymbioses with fungi and bacteria is governed by the Calcium/Calmodulin-dependent protein Kinase CCaMK and its phosphorylation target, the DNA-binding transcriptioal regulator Cyclops. We aim to decode how intricate posttranslational modifications of this complex facilitate symbiosis-specific gene activation redirecting cellular development required for arbuscular mycorrhiza or nitrogen fixing root nodule symbioses.
